Home    Montefienali Experience    About Us
The Borgo Montefienali dates from the twelfth century, it appeared as an abandoned village in the heart of Chianti, deleted from every map and every historical memory, I live alone in some tale of oral histories of local farmers. To save intervened Alessandro Polvani with Germana Construction. The cleanliness of the dense forest appeared the country houses of Montefieneli, one exception, a building from the typical traits of the late Renaissance mansions, where the rain had made resurface old decorations under layers of whitewashing .... in a word Villa Albizi.
History

The story begins Montefienali in Gaiole in Chianti, and dates back to 1000 years ago, in the beautiful Valle del Chianti, Tuscany. The vision he had for the difficult recovery of this village, has come to terms with what was discovered day after day: What is fascinating in its indiscretion, how to get on tiptoe in someone else's house ...
"The last resident was a shepherd . He fled forty years ago. Montefienali no longer gave a living. The cutting of forests was in crisis, herding emigrated to less marginal lands. Moreover, the fief of the Albizi, present since 1667, could not offer (...) In four decades of abandon nature has seized upon us today are only the outer walls remained of the old buildings, the windows dark circles, flaps roofs (...) the ancient cultivated disappeared: the vegetation has enveloped everything in a green mantle (...) only a cypress remains guarding the remains of a church dedicated to San Domenico ".

Germana Costruzioni & company

Inspired by the passion, trust and appreciation for this land, Alessandro Polvani discovered the ruins of Borgo Montefienali during one of his solitary trips in the Chianti hills. "... Beautiful, it hit me ...." He said.
Since 2000, it began to buy and renovate the village, with Germana Construction Polvani family and Cioncolini, fathers and sons together, that deeply wanted to bring back a piece of Chianti. This passion has grown into a collection of exquisitely restored farmhouses around the main villa: Villa Albizi Montefienali.
The houses are mostly a fantastic melting pot of stones, offering a unique view. This form of dwelling is unfortunately more and more rare in the Chianti hills because of the high labor costs associated with it. Located among the rolling green valleys, Villa Albizi enjoys a splendid view of the forest in the south-east and south-west vineyards. This building a rustic time has been transformed into an elegant villa in the Tuscan countryside, with its 500 square meters, sophisticated furnishings, ancient beams, for a space that is spread over three floors, and expands outward in a lookout thrown in emptiness of the valley.

Ark. Ilaria Pianigiani

Ilaria Pianigiani has worked side by side with Germana Construction during the restoration of the Montefienali village. Much of its design inspiration came from the hills of the Chianti area, unpaved roads, and forests of oaks. She and her husband, Thomas Polvani co-owner of Germana Construction, has helped revive the colors and scents of the region. They rebuilt the walls according to ancient practices, using stones collected on the spot. They found old terraces to create hanging gardens of rosemary and lavender.

Montefienali has grown over time and has been much more than an organic effort. With each new project, Ilaria seeking traces of the fabric of a building, to avoid the folkloric approach to restoration, and so the historical construction techniques are not only used to ensure the authenticity, but are part of a method of composition for the revival and the conservation of the past. For over 10 years, he has renovated their homes in Tuscany with her husband: from the village of Montebuoni, the Village of Montefiorile, at Borgo San Vincenti through the Restoration of the old Ama Cellars.

Villa Albizi, the decor reflects the Ilaria love for folk art and crafts, and can be seen in each piece: the padded armchairs with Hand painted in colorful patterns woven carpets; by felled seams in the colors green, blue, red; Memory of old customs. The sulfur endeavored to plants of the dressing to the Green, the coppery mixed with lime for Celeste, and finally for the Red natural land of cinnabar.
His style blends a sense of the bizarre and the lyrical, presents a mix of contemporary and traditional forms; artistic and ethnic influences; bright colors and interesting textures in neutral. He chose fabrics in linen and filled every room with natural wood beds from warheads lines, which hide the locker room. It is a lifestyle of authenticity and deeper meanings, immersed in the traditions of the Tuscan civilization .... and beyond.
